 Like I said, if you step outside of the API, I don't think you can expect
 the API to accommodate you. If you need to locate the config file (or wp-
 load) then I think you need to cater for that in your plugin settings or
 with installation instructions somehow.

 I don't see why the example you gave couldn't exist within the API
 somehow.
