 While it is probably a moot point to use this patch, what with all the
 admin changes going in under the hood, I'd really like this hook no matter
 how it's placed in the final copy.

 This hook will allow plugin authors to "broadcast" messages to the blogger
 regarding, oh I don't know, new posts from contributors, a new post from
 RSS feed xyz, and in the case of certain blog networks like us, network
 status updates. We;ve had to "hack" this hook in to do it because there
 really are no useful hooks for it.

 Can we add this somewhere in the new and improved wp-admin? :)
