Comment:

 It was due to a massive amount of overhead in wp_postmeta that really
 didn't need to be there that it died trying to load.    The posts number
 is just over 5,000 posts, but that wasn't the issue as it was the overhead
 created by a previously deleted plugin which I didn't notice until this
 SVN version.
