Comment (by hexley):
I understand what you are saying. The reality is that of the large
install base you have, 99% of those users are not going to use the avenues
you outlined above. I am a developer myself, and I did not look at
Peter's site, I only recently found out about the mail lists as a result
of minor revolt in the forums.
The problem is the Dashboard just says, hey, you are out of date, update
now, and do I did. So do thousands of others a day.
People do read readme files. I am not asking for ALL changes to be put in
the read me file, but only those that change core past behavior, and can
break functionality people rely on. I am in the -1 camp above, and I was
not even aware of the stuff you mentioned.
Further, I spent 3+ hours in the code, trying to debug the <!--more-->
issue, and in all my google searches and forum posts, no one was able to
help me, it was not until I hit trac up that I found out what was going
on.
By all means, do not waste time bullet pointing every change, but a read
me should be included, that hypotehitically would list items such as this:
Version 2.5 changes and warnings:
RSS feeds no longer truncate on <!--more-->
Default main page sort order has been reversed
Comments no longer support RSS feeds
etc etc
you get the idea, I am talking large grand changes, that people who use
wordpress in a way to support advertisers or other arrangements, where a
change can cost them revenues or integrity with partners.
* The above are examples, I am not saying WP would ever make such changes.
Point me to a place where I can glean this data, an I will be happy to
maintain a concise list.
