 Aaaand, I'm an idiot. When I added the php.ini file I didn't realize that
 I basically set all other options to their defaults. So the answer to the
 problem is somewhere in the php.ini settings, and the defaults do work,
 but it has nothing to do with max_execution_time. I'm currently going
 through option-by-option to see if I can find the culprit. Please stand
 by.
