 I looked into the 3rd diff. there are occasions where the look ahead will
 never occur if you use the template_redirect hook as is. priority should
 be -1000 or something. and even then, sometimes, it won't get caught as
 expected.

 with now reading, for instance, it wouldn't work -- it's arguably a non-
 issue for that plugin, but the point is to highlight that some plugins
 mangle wrongly or even skip template_redirect. this was among the reasons
 I had opened a ticket to request an ob_start hook at one point (which the
 devs refused, but that's another matter).
