 Are there any plans for an API for plugin download statistics on the
 [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ Plugin Directory]?

 Wouldn't it be great to be able to display the total number of downloads
 for your plugin on your blog, just like on your plugin's statistics page
 on wordpress.org/extend.

 A simple XML file is all that would be needed. I see there's already an
 XML file^![1]^ for recent download activity (which is used to build the
 graph on the stats page) but none for total downloads etc.
