#4933: "Meta" widget breaks WordPress architectural standard
----------------------+-----------------------------------------------------
 Reporter: bonafide | Owner: anonymous
     Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: normal | Milestone: 2.4 (next)
Component: General | Version: 2.2.2
Severity: normal | Keywords: meta widget, meta links, architecture
----------------------+-----------------------------------------------------
Since the links for the Meta widget are hardcoded into the file wp-
includes/widget.php rather than inserted into the database the way the
links for "Links/Blogroll" are, this undermines the architectural
 standard of WordPress.

 Suggestions:[[BR]]

 * Converting the Meta widget to a similar interface as the Links widget so
that the Meta links are entered into the database and are editable via the
 admin interface.

 * Alternatively, the existing "category" tags system in Links/Blogroll
system could be used to allow for multiple "Link" widgets based on
categories, similar to what the RSS or Text widgets allow.

The architectural disconnect also contributes to the number of theme
designers hardcoding "Meta" links into sidebars and other display
 elements.
