 Let me correct myself. No page permalinks work. I though the About page
 did but did not realize I had a stale post also called About. I deleted
 that, went to Manage, clicked on View next to the Page that was supposed
 to be my About page and I got a 404. Subsequent tests on other pages did
 the same thing.

 I'd really say that there is something very wrong with Pages and
 permalinks.
