#4283: textarea tag vs. post editor

I'm using WP 2.1.3. I realize 2.2 is out, but I looked at the release
notes and didn't see anything in there about this, and it's pretty
obscure, so I'm going to take a chance that nobody's yet done anything
 about it.

A few minutes ago, I switched the post editor into code (HTML) mode and
dared to type in a ''textarea'' tag. Hoo boy was that ever a mistake! When
I switched back to visual mode, the editor went crazy and spewed half the
post outside its bounds but wouldn't let me repair the problem surgically,
and I ended up being able to salvage only half the text. I can speculate a
few good reasons why this might have happened, so I am not here to demand
that the editor needs to support ''textarea'' tags (although that would be
nice). But since the results are so catastrophic, I'm thinking maybe the
editor should have some safeguards built-in, such as detecting
''textarea'' tags somehow and warning the user that all hell is going to
break loose and offering to strip the problem tags automatically. Or
something like that. I'm sure that once you reproduce this problem you
will be inspired to come up with even better alternatives.
