Comment:

 Closing as wontfix for now.

 This was discussed during the bug hunt the the other day, and a few people
 expressed that consistent behavior is more important than a short cut. I
 agree with them. I have not thought of any applications that behave the
 way this ticket suggests fixing the issue.
