 Sorry, not closed.

 In my previous trackback test, I did NOT run wp-cron.php manually (loading
 it in a web browser).

 I have since followed your suggestions above. I made post B, and linked to
 a previously-created post A. I then looked at Post A. No trackback. I then
 ran wp-cron.php manually. The pingback appeared correctly. You can verify
 this at http://blog.sudosu.net/2007/lots-more-photos-on-flickr/

 So my lack of pingbacks/trackbacks appears to be the same problem that is
 keeping future posting from working.
