 If he's correct, then using {{{$GLOBALS['wp_version'];}}} in both spots
 should work. version.php is definitely loaded before the widgets are, so
 the global $wp_version should be defined. From what westi says, it's
 mostly just a matter of rss.php being loaded outside of the global scope.
