 It seems to be a problem in the rendering of the single page. When I am
 logged in I can see that private post on my front page, but when I click
 on it to view the single post, I receive the 500 server error.

 The other pages that have this error actually do this exactly the same,
 and the_excerpt is not being affected in categories.
