#5470: Permalinks dont update

 When I select any other option in the Permalinks structure either than the
 default all my permalinks go to 404 pages meaning the permalink structure
 hasnt been updated.

 The .htaccess file has been updated when i update the structure.
 So what could it be? I've looked it up on the codex and even used the
 support forums and but no one could tell me what was wrong.
