 Some URLs have parentheses in them, e.g. references to documents using the
 DOI standard:
 http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/S0925-7721(00)00015-8

 now when these are submitted in comments the automagic link detection will
 brake the <a tag at the first parenthesis and the link will be broken.
