 I'm not familiar with the wp_cache_ functions (and can't find their
 documentation!) so I'm not suer if I should be using them rather than the
 options table for these values. Am I right in thinking that the cache
 isn't always enabled (i.e. if the cache directory isn't present or
 writable) and so the options table is the safer choice?
