 Can you explain why the status quo is trouble?  It currently creates an ID
 from a sanitized version of the name, which doesn't strike me as being
 qualitatively different from "sidebar-" + an integer. It also seems easier
 to remember which is the "left sidebar" rather than which is "sidebar-2"
 or whatever.
