 Problem:

 It is impossible to join the notify list linked to from almost every page
 on wordpress.org.

 To reproduce:

 Go to http://wordpress.org/list/ and enter a username (optional) and email
 (compulsory).

 Expected results:

 Receive a confirmation email.

 Actual results:

 No email received ever, regardless of whether you specify a username or
 not. No release announcements received ever.

 Workaround:

 Subscribe to RSS feed feed://wordpress.org/development/feed/ instead.

 Discussion:

 This problem with the notify list has existed for months (years even?). I
 have tried various times over to suscribe the list and have never once
 received a confirmation email from wordpress.org. I have never received a
 release announcement. Given that WordPress is a publicly-deployed piece of
 software with a track record of security holes, it is very important to
 receive notification of new releases. I am hoping that this can be fixed
 soon as it is not very professional and it reflects badly on WordPress and
 the WordPress website.
