Comment:

 Are you installing it from an automated install such as Fantastico? I know
 if you install wordpress from fantastico it has problems with the html. If
 you upload a copy by yourself and install it, it works fine. I have PHP 5
 and it works. If you did upload it by yourself, make sure you uploaded all
 the files.
