Comment (by dd32):

 Alternatively switch to Compact mode (The default) in the screen options
 which removes the excerpt from display.

 This is probably worth reporting as a core bug, I would think that the
 excerpt should either be a new row in the table and spread over multiple
 columns or be severely length limited in display.
