Comment:

 As Dion noted, this is definitely intentional for the current theme to
 center the content, which becomes one column when the viewport is less
 than 768px.

 There is a new theme in current development which has not made the same
 design decision so the content column goes full-width.

 I'm going to close this as 'wontfix' since what's being reported was
 intentional, the way things are now does not pose any issues, and
 especially since it'll be a non-issue with the new theme.
