 So, why hasn't there been any sign of progression for 17 months?

 Because Matt does not want you to see your data.


 Why are plugin developers being set aside?

 Because despite the fact that plugin devs helped get WP to where it is,
 Matt does not now give a flying **** about you.

 Are our contributions not good enough for WordPress?

 Oh they are good - for Automattic.

 Matt could solve this by next Friday.

 HE CHOOSES NOT TO.

 And the GPL means he has you over a barrel.

 Matt's MO, as I have said before, is to ignore what he doesn't like until
 it goes away. And that it precisely his playbook here.

 He does not give a sh*t about ANY plugin dev.

 All he craves is (1) your data and (2) his image as that cuddly little
 cowboy.

 Seriously - stop developing anything for WP.
