 This is unquestionably a really cool idea, and I can see it being really
 useful in future.

 Like other commenters I think the rollout (not the feature itself) is the
 issue here. Opt-in absolutely is the way to go, at least for a lengthy
 grace period.

 I'd also compare this to a new WP version release, where plugin devs have
 access to beta versions, field guides etc to make sure their plugin works
 smoothly long before the stable release. We should aim for the same level
 of prep before this is shown to end users.
