 For reference, this is how that page works:

 When somebody visits chat.wordpress.org, and it logged in, then it
 automatically creates a invite to them from Slack. They have to click the
 link in the email to actually accept the invite. The join link on the page
 may take them to the Slack, but if they haven't accepted the invite, then
 it doesn't matter if they go to that URL or not.

 Clicking the friendly purple button in the email is really the only way
 forward.
