Below are some of the ideas
[https://twitter.com/VitoPeleg/status/1577784069596876800 shared by Vito
Peleg on Twitter], to which @matt replied that "Some of these are very
doable". I'm sharing them here myself while Vito is away with his family.
"I think that perhaps instead we should have deeper tools for monitoring
growth/decline:
- Time to churn (to deactivate) signals good/bad onboarding, UI/UX
- Repeat installs - how many users (anonymized) install on multiple sites
for community opp & advocacy
- Time to result: dev can choose 1 single hook to trigger as “result” and
the calculation checks how long from install to get there. By changing the
placement of the hook devs can optimize entire flows.
- Inner page tracker: which/how many inner plugin pages users visit
- PHP ver distribution, general country-based installs, active install to
review ratio
The sky is really the limit and all of this can be 100% anonymous,
providing value to both users and devs with no harm to anyone."
I encourage other people following this trac ticket to focus on posting
alternative solutions at this point since it has been made clear that the
original version of the active install growth chart will not be brought
back to its previous state. Look at @alh0319's comments above for more
inspiration.
