 I vote to bring this back, like many others. We haven't been given a clear
 reason as to why this was removed and it does not sit well with a large
 part of the community judging from this ticket. I understand why the
 community is suspicious that something else is playing here. The fact that
 it ran for 5 years without anybody saying anything speaks to that.

 If this is indeed an issue about scrapers, privatising fixes that.

 If there is another issue at play, I'm sure there are better ways to
 tackle it, like a conversation for starters.

 It's no secret the plugin repository is being used by businesses. They
 release a free version as way to drive traffic. There's nothing wrong with
 that as those are great plugins used by millions. Yet that group of people
 seems to be consistently overlooked when it comes to the repository.
 There's no data to track, no way to fight pesky reviews that are clearly
 misunderstandings, no way to add images, ...

 The only thing they did have was the active install growth. I'm not sure
 who is benefiting from the decision to take it away but it is, again, not
 that group of people.
