Comment:

 Because we sometimes track users on wp.org using the services provided to
 us by WordPress.com. We also use Google Analytics as well as other tools
 from time to time.

 Is there a separation? Yes. Is it a big one? No, not really. Automattic
 provides us with services, help in the form of manpower, and even hosting.
 Who do you think pays for the servers and the bandwidth? It ain't
 donations.

 So yes, we thankfully accept Automattic's assistance and use their
 services, and servers, on an as-needed basis.
