 post by a helpful reply from @joyously.

 The question of whether the site currently 'works' or not can be answered
 in mere moments by anyone.  Find a friend or family member who has not
 visited the site, start them at the home page, then tell them to find a
 given forum -- or any forum -- for posting a question.

 In less than five minutes they will try to kill you.
