Comment:

 I don't think the 404 is intentional at all, and from a user perspective
 they're two completely separate profiles (Don't ask).

 That being said, A canonical link redirecting to the main
 profiles.wordpress.org domain seems reasonable, even if the content
 (including bio) can be widely different.
