 It's worth noting that
 [https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/1938892 Drupal switched from
 ISO-3166 to CLDR], both for political and UX reasons.

 WordPress.com also uses CLDR in some places, and released
 [https://github.com/Automattic/wp-cldr a plugin that could be helpful].
