 The "WordPress News" email newsletters which are sent out (which appear to
 be a reformatted digest of https://wordpress.org/news/2019/08/the-month-
 in-wordpress-july-2019/) should automatically append the following
 tracking string to all links:

 `#utm_medium=email&utm_source=wordpress-news`

 Failure to do this (as at present) results in these visits being reported
 as 'direct traffic' (i.e., no referrer/medium), which pollutes our
 understanding of the origin and behaviour of traffic on the website.
