 Just to confirm, this is indeed because you have no posts and no mentions.

 P2's behaviour is to just use a WordPress post archive page, which by
 default shows a 404 when no posts match.

 We could extend the theme to show a better message in this case, similar
 to how the search results is displayed: https://make.wordpress.org/core/?s
 =something-that-will-never-match
