 Sidenote, and please feel free to have this conversation directly with me
 elsewhere and not on this ticket, are people really that concerned about
 badges? Are these an incentive to spur contribution? Or just a nice thing
 for those who do contribute? Or are they an indicator of authority in some
 way?

 What is the intent of having these badges and what should be be using them
 to try to encourage? This seems to be the underlying concept that I think
 makes this unclear. I've never thought of them as anything more than a fun
 thing to do. They are a toy. Nothing more. If others put more value into
 them, then that's a conversation that needs to be had somewhere.
