 Thanks Jim for making the strong case that both developers and users need
 the historical versions in easily downloadable form. Samuel, I notice you

 discussion away into a relatively closed and inaccessible area:

 I am really unhappy not to be able to direct our users to older versions,
 some of which have particular use (for example people who prefer KFM image
 management to the WordPress Media Library. We removed KFM at one point
 from Foliopress WYSIWYG but some people may have a valid reason for
 wanting to run that version.

 End user accessible versions is long time functionality which should not
 be ripped out of the heart of WordPress.org plugin directory.
