 Steps to reproduce:

 1. Go to your Edit Profile page within a WordCamp.org site.
 2. Type in some Japanese characters in any of the name fields. e.g. 高野直
 子
 3. Update profile (save).
 4. Check the name field - each character is saved as a question mark.
