Comment:

 I've looked at the existing "parent" blog at https://nl.wordpress.org/ and
 found the following behavior.

 An actual category link:
 https://nl.wordpress.org/category/wordpress-nieuws/

 However, options-permalink.php gives the following example of a category
 link using the default category slug:
 https://nl.wordpress.org/onderwerpen/geencategorie/

 I'm not sure that WordPress core has a set behavior around translating
 slugs, so I'm reopening this ticket.
