 I suspect that because a lot of plugin authors have their own systems
 around this, it would add a lot of needless noise around new threads.

 You can currently follow the RSS feed of your own plugins forums though,
 which is a nice way of doing it (you could even set up IFTTT with this to
 notify whomever you chose).
