 Based on discussion with Sam, recommended approach:

 * Install [http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/XmlRpcPlugin the XML-RPC plugin] to
 [http://themes.trac.wordpress.org the Themes Trac]
 * Expose an authenticated XML-RPC / JSON-RPC method for assigning the next
 open ticket to the currently authenticated user.
 * Write a jQuery plugin that will fire that RPC method when clicked (via
 XHR, presumably?)
