[wp-hackers] GSOC 2013 : Refactor Nav Menu with Backbone

Hey all, 
I am interested in working refactoring nav menu with backbone. In this i suppose the refactoring is to be done on the word press admin panel. 
I have worked on backbone.js on hackerrank.com(Interviewstreet). I am not that much into wordpress community as of now. So could anyone help me to how should i proceed as in to proove myself worth for this project. and I need some detail information on this idea.
