What Daryl said with regards to attachment filesize.

Additionally, JSON is not some kind of Magic Bullet, and realistically
it is not any more descriptive than XML is or can be (in fact, the
truth is quite the other way around). Just converting to JSON doesn't
actually get you anything of real value.

Adding attachments and widget support and similar are worthy causes,
but converting to a JSON format instead of XML isn't necessarily a
pre-requisite for doing that.
