Hey Rick,
I just tried it on a fresh installation of wordpress with the downloaded package from wordpress.org and it worked for me. Can you look at your error log and send me the warnings / errors that were generated?
Also, if you can send me some info about your setup that would help too. (php version, wp version, os etc)
