I'll second the multisite with subdirectories suggestion. Since themes for
things like tickets can also have functionality built in and you may be
going with something pre-built, seems like doing all this switching within a
single theme is more trouble than it's worth. Not to mention the weight of
scripts and stylesheets that aren't being used in X section but still being
loaded. My experience with a sprawling multisite subdirectory installation:
it mostly behaves like one site (especially if you use the admin bar to
access tasks - no dashboard switching), visitors are none the wiser, and
search engine results seem unaffected.
