[wp-hackers] What does 'default' mean?

To add some further clarification, when publishing posts via XML-RPC, the
"default" post format is used automatically.

If post formats aren't enabled on your site (you can enable them using a
single call in your functions.php file), the post format is not set but is *
assumed* to be default.  Live Writer does not yet have the ability to set
different post formats, but once it does you'll be able to use the full list
of supported formats (default, audio, video, aside, chat, gallery, image,
link, quote, status) throughout your site.  Your theme may style posts
differently based on the format, but "default" posts will be styled
normally.
