[wp-hackers] deprecated function get_blog_lis(), but no alternative?

Hi,

I'm using get_blog_list() in several plugins I have built for WordPress 
Mu. Today I was preparing some of them for WordPress 3 multisite and I 
got a message stating that this function is now deprecated yet no 
alternative is available nor recommended ("For performance reasons this 
function is not recommended").

Can somebody tell me a bit more about (looking for the nitty gritty 
details) the thoughts behind this?
