One thing that would be cool which HyperDB is lacking is replication  
lag detection.  If a database server is down, HyperDB deals with it  
gracefully and goes on to try the next one.  If a slave is lagging  
behind the master, however, HyperDB returns old data to the client.  I  
think MediaWiki's distributed database class deals with this problem,  
but it is the only one AFAIK.
