a poorly named variable, several in fact?

example:
link_before
    (string) Text to put before all the links inside the link.
Defaults to (blank). Version 2.7 or later required.

The naming suggests that it goes _before_ the link, when in fact it
only goes _before the text_ of the link.

same can be said for link_after.

I released a plugin some time ago to correct this,

After all what is a list of links to pages...

it's a list of course, and should be marked up as such - shouldn't it?
