[wp-hackers] static homepage = !404 & exposes drafts and private pages ...? :- /

Howzit.

Just found that our 404 page isn't showing up, have a static page as
homepage, permalinks = ' /%post_id%/%postname%/', WordPress 2.5
installation is in the root. Interestingly it does show up if one puts
numerals in the url

So e.g. http://forgebusiness.com/123123123 results in the 404 page
But
http://forgebusiness.com/foofoo.php seems

gets redirected to http://forgebusiness.com/foofoo.php/
then loops through and displays pages with page.php, and apparently shows
pages of any status!?

Any ideas, please?
