I am not sure, since the default/classic themes are currently safe, 
what needs to be mentioned or where it should be put.  But if you can 
(a) write up something rough or a summary of what you think needs to 
be mentioned, perhaps with a code line or two, and (b) suggest which 
article it should be added to (list of theme-related articles is at
http://codex.wordpress.org/Templates ), I would be glad to (c) 
edit/expand it if necessary and add it to the Codex.
