I have 27 years of software engineering experience, and the thing I hate the 
most is writing test code.

Agreed.  It's not so much of a pride thing as spending a lot of time on 
something just to see it go to waste.  Especially when I've seen lead 
developers put untested patches in the trunk.

I've never been on a project with such lack of supervision in my 27 years. 
It would be nice if someone in a position of responsibility could say, "Go 
work on this, we want to put it in," so you know the work wouldn't be 
wasted.  But that doesn't happen, and it makes me wonder if I want to be 
involved further.
